If you’re not using Instagram by this point for your business, you’re missing out. 60% of users find new products on Instagram, and 75% of users take action after seeing a post. That’s the perfect recipe for a paying customer. The easiest way to find and connect with these paying customers on Instagram is through smart automation. This brings us to today’s article – a review of the Instagram automation tool, TagScout.
TagScout Review – What is TagScout?
TagScout is a powerful tool and service that helps you grow and manage your Instagram following through smart automation.
TagScout Review – What Features Does it Offer?
TagScout allows you to automate basic tasks like following, unfollowing, commenting, direct messaging, content scheduling, responding to comments and more.
Unlike a lot of other automation tools, TagScout allows you to do all of the actions described above in a very targeted manner. What this means is that you can like, comment, follow, and unfollow Instagram users based on:
- the hashtags they use
- their location
- the users that they follow
You can also use automated DMs in a similarly targeted fashion. You can send customized DMs to people who:
- follow a competitor
- are a new follower
- are a current follower
- use specific hashtags
- are listed in an excel list (which you upload to the site)
This is incredibly helpful for business because it allows you to find and connect with people who fit your target audience and who are likely to not only be interested in following your account, but also to be interested in buying your product or service.
Another helpful feature offered by TagScout is the ability to control the speed of your automated actions.
This is especially helpful if you automating the actions of a newer Instagram account. The older and more active your Instagram account, the more Likes, comments, follows and general actions you can do on a daily basis before Instagram stops you.
To give an example, this means that a six month-old Instagram account that has been active every day will be able to Like more posts in a day than an Instagram account that was only created a week ago.
If you create an Instagram account on Wednesday, connect it to TagScout, and automate all of its actions as fast as possible, Instagram is going to see that as suspicious and potentially block your account.
If you create a new Instagram account, begin automating its actions on a slow setting, and then over the course of several weeks (or months) you slowly increase the speed of the automation to perform more actions on a daily basis, you’re more closely mimicking natural growth and are much less likely to get flagged by Instagram.
DMs, Inbox and Content Scheduler
In addition to the features described above, TagScout also provides an inbox that allows you to manage, filter, send and receive Instagram DMs from your desktop, as well as a content scheduler which you can use to schedule your posts for days, weeks, and/or months ahead.
It’s also worth mentioning that unlike other scheduling tools like Buffer, TagScout conveniently doesn’t require you to verify a second time before your post is actually posted to Instagram. Whereas with Buffer you have to upload your post to the app, and then verify a second time on your phone before the post is actually posted, with Tagscout you simply have to upload the post to the site and you’re done.
Custom Comments and DMs (with Spintax)
With TagScout you can create up to 100 custom comments to be posted on posts that fit your targeting (explained above).
For example (it’s weird, I know), if you are a small business selling custom pet food bowls in the city of Los Angeles, you could use TagScout to leave customized comments like “What a cutie! Send me a DM if you ever want a custom food bowl delivered to your door ;)” on posts using hashtags like #mypet and geotagged in the Los Angeles area.
This is a great way to quickly get on the radar of potential customers and to provide them with an easy next-step in the case that they want to learn more about you.
The same can be said about customized DMs, which TagScout also offers. Not only can you craft custom DMs to go to specific audiences, but you can also use what’s called Spintax which will change the first name in every DM you send depending on the Instagram handle of the person you’re sending it to.
For example, if you send DMs to @henry505 @alleninthe6, the beginning of the first DM will read “Hey, @henry505!” and the beginning of the second DM will read “Hey, @alleninthe6!”.
You can also make it so that your greeting changes for each DM, alternating between “Hey”, “Hi”, “Yo”, etc. This makes your messages feel more personalized and helps to avoid Instagram flagging your account for sending the same message to multiple people.
While automated DMs can certainly work for lead gen (not as effective as comments because non-followers who receive messages from you have to confirm before they can see them), they are also great for welcoming new followers to your channels and providing them with next steps (“be sure to check out the link the bio!”), as well as automatically updating your followers/customers about any new deals your offering.
TagScout Review – Customer Service
TagScout offers an extensive FAQ page, a chat box with live support from 9AM to 5PM Monday to Friday, and a free call after signing up with one of their customer success Scouts to help customers set up their targeting for the best results possible.
I was considering upgrading my account to a different subscription package, so to test TagScout’s customer service I asked how to do that through the site’s chat box. As illustrated below, I got a response back in just 3 minutes :

TagScout Review – Does it Actually Help Me Grow My Instagram or Is TagScout a Scam?
Whether you are a business, a personal brand or just someone wanting to get more followers on Instagram, TagScout can without a doubt help you grow. It just depends on how well you optimize your targeting.
As explained above, every customer is entitled a free call with one of TagScout’s customer success Scouts to help initially set up their targeting.
For example, I run a small vintage and street wear clothing store on Instagram. After my set up call with TagScout, this is what my targeting looked like:
I was trying to target people who were interested in vintage clothing and street wear so I targeted people using such hashtags as #vintagetommyhilfiger, #vintageclothing, and #vintagestyle. I only delivered to customers within Toronto, so I only targeted people in the Toronto area, and because I knew fans of the fashion influencer Paul Cantu were likely to buy clothing online I targeted followers of his Instagram page.
To give you an idea of how well the target worked, I created my store’s Instagram page in late June of this year. As shown below, in less than a month since it’s creation my store has gained almost 800 followers (and sold 4 items):
I wish I could show you the receipts for the sales but because they were all made in-person and with cash (remember my targeting included only people in my local area) I have no such receipts.
And I don’t seem to be the only one with a good experience. On the authoritative review site, Trust Pilot, TagScout has a respectable score of 9.2/10 from 50 reviews.
Area of Improvement
One thing that is missing that is missing from TagScout that is at the forefront of Instagram marketing right now is engagement pods. Engagement pods are groups of people with similarly sized and themed Instagram channels who agree to Like and comment on one another’s posts.
By supporting one another’s posts in the form of Likes and comments, people help boost their engagement rates and improve the chances of their posts ending up as a Top Result for their hashtags. The ability to find and connect with relevant engagement pods, as well as to use multiple Instagram accounts to form your own engagement pods would be a very helpful feature to have.
Fortunately, while they don’t offer this feature right now, this recent blog post seems to indicate that it is a feature they are working on, so hopefully we can expect that in the near future.
TagScout Review Conclusion
Instagram is where your business deserves to be in 2018. Many of the actions required on your part to grow and maintain a successful Instagram, with the right tool and customized in the right way, can be handed off to automation.
As someone who has tried multiple automation tools and services, I can say that for what it offers and its affordability, TagScout is an Instagram automation tool that deserves your attention.
